Who do YOU want for VP?

The excitement and anticipation is growing every day. Who will Obama pick for VP?

Every name floated out there gets support from some and opposition from others. So, who do YOU want most? Don't say who you THINK Obama will pick. Who do you want among the named frontrunners and legitimate darkhorses?

Re: Who do YOU want for VP? (2.00 / 1)

I really don't care so much, the president sets the agenda, the president has the power and the president is the guy I'm voting for and I, unlike many here, trust Obama's judgement because he has given me no reason not to...

Mark Warner (2.00 / 0)

is who I want to see as veep; does anybody think he tries one more time with getting Warner to flip when he sees the guy face-to-face tomorrow.

Re: Mark Warner (1.00 / 3)

I still think Warner is the shadow candidate. If not I'll support whatever decision Obama makes. But I've  always seen the two as a good match stylistically.

Mark Warner (1.00 / 1)

He would bring Virgina and the election with him. Plus he's a bad ass.

Re: Mark Warner (none / 0)

Mark Warner basically has one more year of experience as governor of Virginia than Tim Kaine, that's it.  Yet according to conventional wisdom, Warner has plenty of experience and Kaine doesn't have enough.  Kaine was Lt. Governor under Mark Warner for 4 years before he became governor.

Is Warner really that much better than Kaine?

Re: Mark Warner (1.00 / 1)

I think so. Warner is a better speaker who carries the same message of change and bipartisanship as Obama. I think he's a great complement to Obama's style and exudes youth and a strong demeanor. More importantly people love him in southern Virginia (republican territory) as well as the nova area. Kaine's base lies in the nova area which is one Obama will already win. Warner brings the state while Kaine might help. Warner is also well liked in  North Carolina. He's the Virginia equivalent of a political rock star.

Re: Mark Warner (none / 0)

1. Warner is an mediocre speaker. He was an amazing Governor though.

2. You are correct that people love him in the Southside and the SW. He runs about 20 points ahead of generic dem down there because he did tons of economic development work before he ran for Governor (and Senate in 1996 against John Warner).

3. Kaine's base is NOVA, sure, but so is every generic Dem candidate. If Kaine actually has a base it's in Richmond. He was mayor of Richmond and when you serve as Lt. Gov and Governor, you can be sure that people in Richmond know your name.

Re: Mark Warner (none / 0)

Warner started Nextel. That's major experience, even if not in government.

Re: Mark Warner (1.00 / 1)

Good point. He is known to be strong on economic issues too. He was voted the nations best governor (or one of the best)during his term. He really helped turn the state around.

Re: Mark Warner (none / 0)

Ummm. He didn't start Nextel. He invested in them. And he invested in cell phone tower licenses (bought them up from the government when they were cheap) and made a fortune.

He was a GREAT governor. But he often mocks his road to fortune on the stump. It was pure blind luck.

Re: Mark Warner (none / 0)

Why has Warner been off the radar until now?
He seems like a very interesting guy. Is he well known? REC

Re: Mark Warner (none / 0)

He's not off the radar. he was running for President and raising tons of money as a formidable 1st tier candidate, but then someone threatened to release oppo on him and he dropped out of the race. Hmmm, who could have done that?

Anyway, then he ran for Senate. Personally, I wish he was running for Governor in 2009 because he was a great Governor and piece of plywood could have beaten Gilmore this year.

As someone who went from Richardson to Al Gore to Obama, I want CLARK!!!!

Re: Who do YOU want for VP? (none / 0)

I guess Warner or Clinton.  At this point I almost don't care, all of the speculation is tiring me out.  I could get behind any ticket, I just hope it's one that locks down a state or a demographic.

Biden or Bayh.

Kaine has that funny eyebrow thing.

Hillary (1.50 / 2)

But only if Terry MacAuliffe serves as Obama's food taster.

Re: Hillary (none / 0)

That's my problem with Hillary. I used to worry that she'd turn out all the Republicans, but the slime campaign from McCain has managed to appeal to Republicans' inner scumbag. Right wing assholes will already vote against Obama.

Clinton helps sell the campaign to blue collar voters and working class women. He also keeps Obama more competitive among older voters.

The problem, though, is not Hillary but many of the people she surrounds herself with. Terry McAullife is insufferable. And who can forgive Hillary for hiring and holding on to Mark Penn for so long?

And then there's Bill. I'm frankly not sure that he helps given the passive aggressive statements he's made recently about energy policy.

Re: Hillary (1.00 / 1)

Naw. VPs don't help with anything. That's a myth. They bring 1-2 points in their homestate. And you get one press cycle. Then they fade into the background.

So...the secret is to pick someone who doesn't piss off 75% of the country!

no, stop your bullshit. (2.00 / 1)

Hillary does not "piss of 75% of the country." Thats intolerable right wing horseshit that is nothing more than a rw talking point.

I want Clinton (2.00 / 2)

Not a deal breaker though.

I don't care who the VP candidate is... as long as he/she actually becomes the Vice President!
